Zhangjiajie

One of our last trips this year in China was to Zhangjiajie, the land that inspired the mountains in the movie Avatar.   We traveled with the Wright's and had a very memorable trip.

Our first stop was Tianmen Mountain. We rode up the longest cable car ride in the world to get to the top. It took 38 minutes. There is a hole in the mountain big enough for airplanes to fly through. 

The tour included a walk on a glass bottom walkway that hung on the side of the mountain 1500 ft above the ground. 

The ride down was on a bus on the "99 turn" road. 

Our next stop was the Grand Canyon. As we traveled to the entrance we came around a corner and were surprised to see a tree growing out of the middle of the road. No warning signs or reflectors. We had to stop and get a photo. 

It took 1,000 steps and rides down two slides to get to the bottom of the canyon. 

There is a new glass bottom bridge across the canyon that has not opened to the public. 

It was a beautiful walk back to the top. 

We then had a boat ride on Baofeng Lake. 

Next on the itinerary was the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. It was the first national park in China. The views were spectacular.

We had to be aware of the cute, but aggressive monkeys along the path. 

We topped off our trip by purchasing a beautiful picture by a local artist. The medium is natural sandstone in a variety of colors. 

This was one of the most beautiful areas that we have seen in China.
