Copper Canyon Travels

 The Copper Canyon in Mexico has been on our bucket list for a few years. Rick and I were finally able to travel there this month with our good friends Dan and Laura Heiner and 37 other adventurous travelers. 

Our trip with Trafalgar Tours began and ended in Phoenix.  Sergio our tour guide and Arturo our bus driver took excellent care of each one of us. We really came to appreciate the history of Mexico as we traveled from San Carlos to Alamos, El Fuerte and then on the train (El Chepe) into the Copper Canyon. The hotels that we stayed in were landmarks of the colonial era in Mexico when silver was shipped from the Sierra Madres to Spain. The food was delicious with lots of fish and delicious soups at every meal.

A lookout at the Copper Canyon which was about 8000 feet above sea level. We were layered up with all of the clothes in our suitcases because it was really cold!

This picture is from Paquime which is a UNESCO site at Casas Grandes.  These are ruins that are from 700 AD.

This a couple that created this beautiful piece of pottery that we bid on at Casas Grandes.  The etchings were done with a paint brush containing 6 human hairs.  It can be seen at the Parker home!

This is a Tarahumara Indian who made a beautiful basket that I purchased from her. They earn their living by making baskets and selling them to tourists.
